The biggest problem I encountered while making this illustration was its lighting. I wanted to use unusual lighting with strongly tinted colour(in this case green light) and contrasting shadow with its own strongly tinted colour(purple shadow). To determine the shape of light as well as overall colour I created several colour studies keeping an eye on overall value of the illustration.
This is a short comic about a kid and a dragon who stole the stars. Determined to bring the stars back to the sky, Helen decides to go find the dragon.
How does your love look like? Have you ever put your favourite things away neatly tucked into the bottom of the closet in fear of losing it?
In an illustration, I would start with simple sketch to figure out the composition. As I go through the tonal sketch and colour rough stages I adjust every element of the illustration. There may be several versions of colour roughs as it is the stage where I usually do style exploration. Sometimes line art will be drawn or rough sketches are cleaned depending on what style of illustration I am aiming for.
